A Taste Of Afghan Radio!
Saturday 02-20-2010 12:36pm AK
I had the opportunity to hang out with 6 Afghan radio DJ's based on the FOB (Forward Operating Base) Sharana in the Paktika Province of Afghanistan. We all got a long very well and learned a few tricks of the trade from each other. The station they work out of here is nothing like what we're used to back in the United States, but they make it work and do a GREAT job! I can tell you, that other than the artists that sing Pashtu (local language), they like Michael Jackson, Charlie Daniels Band & Neil Diamond but aren't authorized to play American music, their fan base just wouldn't react well to our style of musical entertainment! Enjoy! BradleyV Click Here

Hitchin' A Ride On A Chinook!
Wednesday 02-10-2010 12:24am AK
Early in the morning, the Major woke me from a dead sleep (he's a Major, he can do that!) to tell me that I was flying via Chinook from FOB (Forward Operating Base) Salerno in the Khost Province to FOB Sahrana in the Paktika Province of Afghanistan. From the time he woke me up until the time we touched down about 60 miles away was just about an hour and 15 minutes. I video taped the arrival of the CH47 Chinook and the flight to FOB Sharana, come along for the ride!! BradleyV Click Here
Saifullah
Monday 02-08-2010 12:58am AK

I've had had the opportunity to meet a number of incredible of the Afghan people here. They are humble, polite and extremely hard workers. Most of the country are farmers or agricultural professionals and they take their responsibilities very seriously. The average family of 5 here in Afghanistan, makes the equivelant of less than $300 per month, if you make more that that, you are considered to be doing very well.
Saifullah (pronounced SY-FAH-LAH) is one of those people. Saifullah is our translator and cultural advisor here on FOB (Forward Operating Base) Salerno in the Khost Province of Afghanistan. He is employed by the US military and works closely with the Army here. He's a great guy, quiet, humble, respectful and dedicated. Although he makes a number of times more than the average Afghan does, you would never know it from his demeanor, personality & character. I would like to introduce you to Saifullah. BradleyV
ATTACKED!!
Sunday 02-07-2010 6:08am AK
Senior Airman Munson and his buddy, NCO (Non-Commissioned Officer) "Durban", work to keep the 'Bad Guys' in check in Afghanistan. "Durban" is a 10-year old, 80lb German Shephard and known as a Patrol Narcotics Detection Dog. If you're a bad guy with opium or some other drug and "Durban" is around...well, you got a BIG problem!!
The suit I'm wearing in this video is hefty, at least 25 pounds and as you'll see, very bulky. It's funny to watch because the suit moves a little later than you do. This dog has some serious strength and I was extremely winded from fighting him off!
Anyway, we let "Durban" get some excercise today ... guess who played the part of the dog treat?!?

The Buffalo
Friday 02-05-2010 9:57am AK
This video is actually one that displays a number of pieces of 'Route Clearance Package' equipment used to clear, detonate or mark roadside bombs, also know as an IED (Improvised Explosive Device). Showcased are the RG-31, the 'Mine Roller' and the RPG (Rocket Propelled Grenade) cage. The cage is designed to keep rockets from puncturing holes through the actual vehicle. The last piece of equipment in the video is called "The Buffalo" EOD (Explosive Ordinace Disposal) vehicle. Big and bully, it can dispense remote control robots, has radio jamming capabilities and an arm that can dig around a roadside bomb to expose it safely from inside the vehicle. This particular "Buffalo" was used in the movie "Transformers", the character it played was 'Bonecrusher'. This vehicle is now active duty on the Forwarding Operating Base (FOB) Salerno in the Khost Province of Afghanistan and is the actual vehicle used in that movie and it now has ... a KASH Country 1075 bumper sticker!! Apache Pride!
Friday 02-05-2010 9:02am AK
This is an Apache Attack AH-64 Assault Helicopter. The difference between an assault helicopter and an attack helicopter, like the Blackhawk, is that an assault chopper never touches down. It flies in, attacks and leaves whereas the Blackhawk may attack or it may land and deliver troops, supplies or weapons before taking off again making it more vulnerable to attack itself. There's your lesson of the day. So, what's an Apache look like up close. Check out the video!! BradleyV Click Here
Chinook Slingload
Friday 02-05-2010 8:42am AK
Chinook CH-47 are amazing helicopters and are troop & cargo transport aircraft. Chinooks "Slingload" all kinds of cargo weighing up to other Chinooks to move that cargo from one place to another. In this video, this Chinook slingloads a mobile radar unit from an outer location to Forwarding Operating Base (FOB) Salerno in the Khost Province of Afghanistan. Click Here
